Reasons for Performing Vascular and Coronary Artery Bypass Surgeries

As the name suggests, vascular surgery is a procedure, which is performed to treat the diseases of the vascular system of the human body. It is a surgical subspecialty, through which infections in the veins, arteries, and lymphatic circulation are effectively treated. It is a minimally invasive catheter as well as a surgical reconstruction procedure.

Every part of the human body, such as arteries and veins, except the heart and the brain can be effectively managed with this surgical procedure. This means that through vascular surgery, a surgeon handles and treats the problems of a large main artery, known as the aorta after it leaves the heart and enters the stomach.

Vascular surgeons are usually highly trained specialists who are capable of treating diseases of the human body vascular system. The roadways of the circulatory system of the human body are the blood vessels. This is because these blood vessels in arteries and veins carry oxygen-rich blood to the heart of the human body. Thus, the effective function of the heart mainly counts on the smooth flow of blood.

Vascular surgery is recommended for patients with conditions, such as hardened arteries, which can produce traffic jams in the circulatory system of their body. Thus, the surgical procedure aids greatly in allowing the blood to flow smoothly to all parts of the human body.

Coronary artery bypass surgery is usually performed to restore the blood flow to the heart muscle of the human body. Through this procedure, a surgeon can divert the flow of blood around an area of a blocked artery in the heart of the patient. The surgery involves the capturing of a healthy blood vessel from the arm, leg, or  chest of the patients and connecting it above and below the blocked arteries in their heart. This, in turn, improves the blood circulation of the heart.

However, coronary artery bypass surgery does not cure heart illness, owing to the blockages created by coronary artery disease or atherosclerosis. However, the procedure can alleviate symptoms, such as shortness of breath and chest pain. The surgery can improve the function of the heart and lessen the risk of dying of a heart attack, as well.
